Didymaotus lapidiformis (twin mesemb, tweelingvygie (Afr.)) is a highly succulent dwarf plant that occurs localised in a small area in the semi- desert southern Tanqua Karoo.
The plant body consists of a single leaf pair, but can form small clumps with age. Didymaotus lapidiformis is a mimicry plant and in habitat the plants blend with the multi-coloured pebbles amongst which they grow.
Didymaotus lapidiformis distinguishes itself from other living stones in that it produces two flowers simultaneously. One on each side of a leaf pair. The flowers are white to purplish-pink.
The plants are difficult to cultivate and Didymaotus lapidiformis needs special care in a bright greenhouse with minimal watering.
Didymaotus lapidiformis is the only member of the genus.
