HAWORTHIA AND SUCCULENT AUCTION

This blog is dedicated to plants from desert regions around the world as well as plants that have adapted to withstand arid conditions, but do not occur in real deserts. Many of the plants are found in arid semi-desert regions. There will be a greater emphasis on succulent desert plants, but others will also be included. This blog deals with desert plants of the Americas, Africa, Arabia and others. We are situated in South Africa and South African plants are likely to feature more dominantly. The pictures taken are from our private botanical desert garden at Leopoort near Oudtshoorn, from plants in nature, as well as other collections. This blog is updated regularly with pics and info of at least five new desert plants per month.

The distribution of Cyphostemma uter is limited to the hot and dry Kaokoveld in northern Namibia. The area is very remote and the plant was only described in 1960 by Bernard M.Descoings.

This caudex forming plant that belongs to the grape family can grow to a height of about 2 meters. The plants grow and flower in summer and need a well drained sandy soil and do best when fully exposed to the sun. In cultivation minimum temperatures of -3 deg Celsius are withstood as long as the plants are kept relatively dry and well ventilated.

The propagation is from seed or cuttings. Seedlings are very prone to rot.
