Cleistocactus jujuyensis is a slender, freely branching cactus native to Argentina and Bolivia.
The greyish-green stems grow up to 1 m long or sometimes longer. The aeroles produce many thin radial spines and four yellow-brown central spines. The thin flowers (up to 4 cm long) are red in colour and appear in the middle of spring in our rockery in South Africa.
Propagation is from seed or cuttings and a well drained soil is essential. Watering is mainly during summer.
Adult plants in our nursery easily withstand mild frost (-3 deg Celsius) in winter.
