Astrophytum caput-medusae is a most peculiar Astrophytum species. The plants were discovered in Nuevo León in Mexico and lack the normal semi-globular, or cactus like appearance of the other species in the genus.
The long tentacle- like tubercles makes this a most unusual cactus.
